Mind over Matter

I just read a great little story where age knows no limit.  At the age of 92, Gladys Burrill “the Gladyator” finished the Honolulu Marathon(Dec. 2010)  in 9 hours 52 minutes and was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for her age group.  For those that train, her time was tortoise like, but time was not the important aspect here.  That she was out there and finished the event is what is amazing.

Here’s the kicker, she didn’t start running until she was 86.  Let this be a lesson that age is not the limiting factor when it comes to exercise, it is our minds.  The old cliche definitely applies here “we can do anything that we set our minds to.”  Think of all those, young and old, who just sit around watching TV or playing video games when they could be out strengthening their minds and bodies through exercise .  This is a great reminder that we need to keep moving no matter what our age.  Thanks for the motivation Gladys!
