Misadventures in Health Habits #2

Las Vegas is where adults go to escape for a few days from reality and indulge themselves.  I’m all for taking vacations and stress relief, the reason for these posts has been to point out that Sin City is just a larger reflection of the poor health habits that many have when back at home.  For instance:

The Land of Excess!

Excess Quantity – Portion sizes usually come like the size of Texas – “gianormous.”  Besides being wasteful, people tend to follow the clean your plate principle and finish off these 2 -3 person serving size plates at each meal. Don’t forget, the alcohol comes by the yard.

Air Quality – Just walking through a hotel/casino incites the need for an oxygen tank due to the lack of clean air from all of the smoking.  You sure wouldn’t know that the tobacco companies had paid out large court settlements based on the numbers of people smoking.  I threw myself and all my clothes in the washing machine upon return home just to clean off the stench from passing through the lobbies.

Nutrition Poorly Prioritized- Take a look through restaurant menus and look to see what gets top billing – sweet and tasty sugar and fatty foods or healthy nutritious natural foods?  More than likely you will see that there is more selection of sodas and bigger picture than you will of fresh squeezed juice.

Impaired judgement due to excess consumption.

While splurging is fine once in a while, most people forget how often they indulge even when at home.  It is this excess that adds up over time and creates injury, sickness, and disease.  By practicing daily the 4 Pillars of Healthy Habits: Exercise daily, Eat nutritious food in right amounts, Sleep 7+ hours a day, and avoid the health risks of tobacco/drugs and alcohol, you can reach a higher health state.
